I have had a Silhouette subscription for at least 4 years. If you have a lot of files, though, it would be a big pain to have to organize them again. Silhouette has a record of all the files you have purchased, so you can always download them again. The possibility of losing your own personal designs, as well as your system of organization, are the two biggest reasons for backing up before updating. I didn't lose a ton of the personal files, because most were also on my desktop as well as my laptop, but I definitely lost some.Ĭhat support did help me regain my purchased files and folders, but I probably need to chat with them again to see if there is any way I can recover any missing personal designs. I was sick of the nagging about the new update and wasn't thinking about the fact that I had not done a backup in a couple of months. I knew better, but because I was tired, I just hit the update option on impulse. ![]() The reason I lost files is because I was tired and updated without first doing a back up of my library. I am one of the gals who lost my personal files and my folder organization the last time I updated. I am glad you were able to update successfully. Not as nice as what should automatically have shown if it had downloaded properly, but at least I can see something for an image in my library, rather than a blank, white space. I got around the lost image by opening the file, adapting it very slightly (filling with color or something), then saving it to my library as a separate file. I had not updated my software at that point, so it may not be the same problem, but reindexing was an issue for older versions. I have far too many designs, all neatly organized, to want to spend time reorganizing them into folders again, especially for a minimal problem like one missing image. I can't remember the reason why I did not want to reindex my library, but I think it was because I would lose my folders and have to reorganize all my files again. I remember refusing to reindex my library for one missing image. I contacted Silhouette to complain, and they wanted me to reindex my library. There was one file that I bought which downloaded without the image. Reindexing should be a LAST resort for a serious problem, not for fixing simple ones. Before you even consider doing it, read about what it does, what problem(s) it solves, and ask questions of support chat first. ![]() I imagine the file will still work because the Silhouette program works, and the library exports are a Silhouettte file.Ībout reindexing your library. So I would hazard a guess your files are saved correctly, just not showing the association with the Silhouette program with an icon. I clicked OK, it contacted the server and did the import. I got a little box appear under my panels on the right hand side that asked for my email and password. I then went back to Silhouette and from File>Library>Import Library tried it. That then gives the file it's usual blue circle with the letter S. Being an inveterate tinkerer I went into properties and associated the file with Silhouette (under Programs(x86)/Silhouette America). I believe this is because the file isn't associated with the program by Windows. I had a file that looked just like yours, a little white piece of paper with the corner turned over. I exported all 3 of my designs from the Local User library. I would appreciate any and all advice as to anything else I should do before updating my software and would also love to hear what version I should update to. Maybe my version is new enough or no? How important is this? Why would I not have this option? I have also read about re-indexing your library before saving it but I did not have a 'reindex' option under my Advanced settings. This is what I have so far and my current software info. ![]() Can you tell I'm super paranoid about this? I will also upload them to the cloud that I use for my photos. I have saved them on my laptop (desktop) as well as my EHD. I believe I have backed up my Local User files as well as my Cloud files (just in case!). and I know if I don't back up my library and choose the right version then my whole entire Silhouette world could implode! I've seen it happen TOO many times to other people unfortunately and I don't want it to happen to me!
